A coin-sorting machine capable of rejecting tokens whilst counting 100 assorted coins every second is bringing a smile to the faces of seaside folk. Cash handling at The Olympia Amusement Centre in Weston-super-Mare has recently become 25% faster thanks to a new JetSort^®6400 CD Coin Sorter from Warwickshire based Cummins-Allison Ltd.

Centre Manager, Mick Wilkins explains, “We use tokens on a large scale in our prize machines and they do tend to migrate into the cash where they were counted as pound coins. We no longer have to check and adjust each bag; our new JetSort automatically rejects the tokens saving around a quarter of the time we used to spend on this job.”

The Cummins JetSort 6400 CD is designed to detect foreign coins, tokens or in fact anything that does not match the metallurgical properties of UK coins and performs this task whilst sorting 6000 coins per minute. Sorting accuracy is 99.995% and JetSort is the only high-speed sorter that stops on the exact count every time.

Very busy for 52 weeks of the year, the Olympia , at 10,000 sq ft and with more than 300 amusement machines, is the largest arcade in the town and is second only to the Grand Pier in Weston as a whole. The centre is part of the Amusement Equipment Co. (AMECO). Mick is a long-term Cummins customer and had one of the first JetSort machines in the UK more than 14 years ago. He continues, “We are constantly dealing with very large quantities of coins and have tried other makes of sorters but have always come back to Cummins. These machines are essential to our business, sorting and counting this amount of cash by hand is a virtually impossible task, a real nightmare, that is why reliability is so important and that is what we are getting from the JetSort!”
